Finding out the Problem

Sometimes, it is easier to find a solution when you know where the problem lies. Without an idea of where the problem is, we may not be able to troubleshoot accurately and effectively. So to find out where the problem can possibly lie, open the dial pad on your S3 and dial the number *#7353#.
Once you enter this number and hit the phone icon like you would make a call, you will notice a new menu pop up on the screen in a few seconds. Tap on the first option which is Melody and you will be able to hear music playing on the earpiece of your Galaxy S3. Put it close to your ear and check if the music plays without breaking off or whether it plays or not.
Then from the same menu, tap on Speaker and you will hear loud music playing from the Speaker. In ideal conditions, your phone will play the music from the speaker without any problems, but if the phone is not playing any music then there is a problem in the speaker of your device.
If the sound test shows that you do not have any problem with the earpiece or the speaker then there is a possibility that you are dealing with a bad music file or a bad software in your device. It means that your phone’s hardware is working as expected.
However, if the earpiece did not work then the problem lies in the hardware. While you can clean the speakers to ensure they work properly, deeper troubleshooting related to the hardware is best left to the repair shop.

Solution 1: Fixing the Speaker

Some users have found a reason for this problem. The signal strength falls down immediately after calls. To fix the problem temporarily, restart the  phone. To fix the problem permanently follow the steps below:
  • Go to Settings menu of your device
  • Tap on Accessibility and make sure that “turn off all sounds” is not selected.
  • Next, go to Settings again
  • Tap on Sounds and check that the volume level is high and turned on.
Once you have completed these steps, you must check if noise reduction has been switched on in your phone. If it is on, it must be switched off. To do this:
  • Go to the Settings menu of your device
  • Tap on Call settings
  • Now tap on Additional settings and see the noise reduction.
  • If it is checked, then uncheck it.
If the problem is not solved, there might be some hardware issues in the speaker. Check the volume level.
Then check whether the connector is damaged. If so, then change the connector.

Solution 2: Fixing the Microphone

You may face two problems with your Samsung Galaxy S3 micro; no sound is accepted by the microphone, and the other problem is the microphone goes mute while calling.
If the sound is not accepted when you are speaking, then go to Settings and then record the sound using the sound recorder. If it does not work, then there is some hardware problem and it would be best to contact Samsung service center.
But if you see that the mic is working when you are recording voice, but at the time of making a call the phone is getting muted, then the problem is occurring because of noise filter cap. When the noise filter cap gets damaged, such issues occur. Noise filter cap is a rubber cap which protects the microphone hole from any damages. In such a case, you will have to change the noise filter cap.
Another problem that you may face with your Samsung Galaxy S3 is noisy sound. It normally happens when dust gets stored over the diaphragm. You have to replace the buzzer part of your phone.

Solution 3: Restart Your Device in Safe Mode

If a third party app is causing the problem then you will be able to find this out by restarting your device in Safe Mode.
  • Bring up the Power Options menu on your screen by pressing the power key.
  • Now tap and hold the Power option from the menu.
  • You will get a pop-up asking if you would like to restart your device in safe mode
  • Tap OK.
Your device will restart and it will have the words Safe Mode written on the screen. Now check if the problem you were facing has been fixed. If it is solved then a third party app is the culprit.

How To Check Tracks On A PCB For Mobile Phone Repairs GSM TUNISIA

check tracks on cell phone PCB
                     GSM TUNISIA
‘Circuit-tracing’ or ‘Line-checking’ is a term used by mobile phone repair technicians to check broken tracks on the green coloured PCB (Printed Circuit Board). Many of the times problems come in cell phones, if the tracks get broken. These tracks are not visible as they are drawn inside the circuit boards. Most of these motherboards have 7-10 layers which have tracks/lines going from one end to another for supply of voltage and signals.

What problem comes when tracks are broken?
There are tracks for various parts and functions all along the circuit. They are made to supply voltage to various electronic components like mic, speaker, ringer, vibrator, LCD, etc. So if the line for supply to a particular part is broken, the corresponding part will fail to work.

How do we know that the track/ line is broken?
In older models of the late 1990’s, PCBs had all the lines drawn to show all the tracks but not anymore. Now you will have to take the help of diagrams to trace them. If the line is broken, the part/component which gets voltage due to it will not function. If that part is faulty, simply replace it and your problem will get solved. But if the part is ok, you will have to check whether it is getting current or not while troubleshooting.

It is very easy to check lines on a PCB due to the facility of internet.

Example 1: Suppose your cell phone model is Nokia C1 and its mic is not working, then you just have to type in Google Images – Nokia C2 mic solution

nokia C1 speaker track tracing

Example 2: If your model is Samsung Galaxy S3, and it’s not charging and you have checked its charging port/connector and if it’s fine, then just type in Google Images – Samsung galaxy S5 charging solution

samsung galaxy charging track

You will get lots of images with diagrams showing tracks. Select the best ones!

Now you will have to check these tracks with a multimeter by keeping it setting on ‘continuity’. If you get a beep sound, then the track is ok and the problem is somewhere else. You can also trace continuity of tracks shown in other images also. If you do not get a beep sound, the track is broken. Solder a jumper wire between the 2 points and your problem will be solved. You may also be directed to check or change some small parts like resistors and capacitors in these images.

You will also get various jumper diagrams and images on forums and websites like www.gsmhosting.com and www.u2ugsm.com

What if diagrams for a particular model’s problem are not available?
Here the only option for you will be to see the tracks through schematic diagrams.

How To Check Battery Of A Cell Phone With Multimeter GSM TUNISIA

Want to know how to check battery of cell phone? With lots of usage of various functions and apps, the battery consumption has become very high in todays smartphones. The usage of battery charge through internet either by data connection (2G or 3G) or WiFi also leads to quicker draining in cell phones. Its easy to test or check the battery with the help of the multimeter. It’s the voltage of the battery that is checked to know how much charged it is. The unit of voltage is Volts and its symbol is V. Although the screen of the phone indicates the charge level of the battery, you will need to check it with multimeter when your handset is dead! The method of checking a battery is the same for all models and manufacturers like iPhone, Samsung, Sony, LG, Nokia, Chinese phones, etc

Steps to check the battery with the multimeter
  1. Switch off your cell phone and carefully remove the battery.
  2. Now search on the label of the battery for its given voltage. Most batteries of cell phones, digital cameras and tablets are of either 3.7V or 3.8V
  3. Place the battery such that its terminals face you.
  4. Now keep the multimeter (either analog or digital) on DC Volt setting. It may be indicated with either DCV or just V and a straight line with 3 dots below it. In DCV (DC Voltage) also, there will be many settings like 2mV, 2V, 20V, 200V, 1000V. Keep the setting on the number above the actual voltage of the battery. It will be either 10V or 20V in most multimeters. An indication of ACV or just V followed by a curved line means AC voltage. Do not use this setting as batteries run on DC voltage.
  5. Now touch the tip of the red probe of the multimeter on the terminal of the battery named ‘+’and touch the tip of the black probe on the terminal named ‘-‘. (The positive terminal of the battery is indicated by a ‘+’ sign and the negative terminal is indicated by a ‘-‘ sign.).
  6. Keep both the probes touched until you see a stable reading on the screen of the meter. If the reading on the screen is more than 3.70 for a battery of 3.7V, then the battery is fully charged. And if it is less, then you will have to charge it with a charger. It should show a reading above the charge of the battery.

If the battery is drained and showing 0 voltage or say less than 3.7, you will have to charge it with a charger. You can also charge it with a DC power supply. If after charging for a long time, still it is showing the same charge, then the battery is faulty. You will need to buy a new one as batteries are not repairable. If the reading of the battery is below 3.70V even after charging it, your mobile phone will not switch on.

How to use multimeter in mobile phone repairs

A funny traditional method of checking battery
Many cell phone repair technicians also check batteries with the help of the tongue which is a very unethical and equally funny method. Yet it will get you the result. They just touch the tip of their tongue to the ‘+’ terminal of the battery and if it gives a sort of current or spicy taste, then it means the battery is charged. While if it does not give the above effect and you if you do not feel anything on the tip of your tongue, than its charging is down. I am just writing this method for knowledge purpose and strongly advice against using it unless in an emergency!

How to check a fast draining battery?
Now, if your battery is draining very fast even after fully charging it, you will have to check it obviously. In such a case a multimeter will not help. This is because a multimeter will just show how much charge is there in the battery. But if the battery’s chemical inside has become weak or worn out, it will discharge quickly.

In such cases, you can check it any of the below 3 methods
  1. There are special battery check machines which will test it
  2. Test your battery in other same working model. If it discharges fast in that handset too, its become faulty.
  3. Put a new battery in your handset and check. If the problem is solved, your older battery is faulty.

So if the battery is faulty, you just have to replace it. But what if its good and still your phone is discharging? Then there is some short-circuit or hardware related fault in the PCB. Try servicing the PCB with a circuit cleaner.

How To Test Or Check LCD Of A Cell Phone GSM TUNISIA

Résultat de recherche d'images pour "iphone 7 lcd"

It is not difficult to check LCD (Display) of a cell phone or a tablet. LCDs being delicate tend to crack, leave blots or simply sop working. So if its is broken or cracked, you can see its broken manually. Even if there is a blot on it, you can see it physically. But what if its looking good and still there is no graphics on the display? The problem may be either the LCD is faulty or there is some problem in the PCB. So how do we test it?

A faulty LCD can be of the following types:
  • Cracked or broken
  • A blot (round in shape which will spread rapidly!)
  • Blank display with no graphics.
  • An LCD with just graphics and no light (LED) glowing on it.

You can check LCD of a cell phone by any of the below methods

1. LCD Testers: There are testing machines available in the market for checking of LCDs. The problem here is that as all models have different LCDs, you will need to buy an LCD tester machine for all types and models and will run into hundreds! As all LCDs of smartphones,  be it an iPhone or a Samsung Galaxy or an Xperia have different size connectors, with varying no of connecting pins, a universal LCD checking machine cannot be made. This is a major constraint and hence not at all feasible unless you deal in repairs or testing of thousands of units of a particular model.

2. Check it in same model cell phone: The second option is if you have a working handset of the same model, you can easily put your LCD into that handset and check if its working or not. For eg. If you want to check the LCD of your iPhone 5s, you can check it in a working iPhone 5s. So what if you do not have a working handset of the same model. Read the last option!

3. Check with a new LCD: Replace your LCD with a new one. If graphics appear on the LCD, that will mean your old LCD is faulty. And if the new LCD also is not displaying graphics, it will mean your old LCD may be ok. And the problem may be in the PCB. The problem may be in the LCD connector, its connections, PCB or an IC controlling the display function.

Note:

1. You cannot check LCD with a multimeter or an oscilloscope!

2. In Samsung phones, you can also check clarity of the screen with the code *#0*#. You can check red, green and blue colours with this code.

3. As regards to being original or duplicate, its better to buy them from good and reputed vendors. Again, if you have many LCDs, you can switch on the handset and compare the clarity with various LCDs yourself.

4. If no light (LED) is glowing, please check LCD brightness settings first before opening your mobile phone.
